Trying to Leave Las Vegas - please save me 7:35 AM

After contributing to the Las Vegas economy, I am now in overtime in Vegas as all flights were cancelled heading back to NYC yesterday. This is my 3rd vegas trip in 3 months and this city is way too exhausting -- I am on fumes right now since I can't get back to NYC until Tues night. Here are a few happenings or observations about Vegas as I deviate from dating entries:

  • Vegas is good for 36 hours and no more
  • Taxi drivers must be pimps b/c almost everyone offered a girl to my hotel rooom in 20 minutes or less
  • Cabbies expect way more tip than NYC taxi drivers and they're also scam artists -- you don't need to take a highway to get to another casino.
  • Fremont St and downtown Vegas isn't that great so save yourself a $20 cab fare and stay on the strip
  • My best advice to anyone in Vegas, if you need to kill time or you're waiting for someone, don't go to the tables.
  • Good karma - tip after you've won
  • Bad karma - being interrupted during a hot streak by a big boobed cocktail waitress
  • Get a rent-a-car because all those cab fares add up very quickly
  • There are many ways to lose $1K in 30 minutes
  • Don't believe the little voice in your head that says, "I can make it all back"
  • Best law in NYC is no smoking -- I now have lung cancer due to second hand smoke here in the casinos. You come to appreciate fresh air when you've suffocated from smoking for a whole weekend.
For my buddy, he's a smart guy but also a funndy dude:
  • We were thirsty so he said, don't buy it, we'll just sit at a table and wait for the cocktail waitress -- the coke and bloody mary cost $200 each 45 mins later.
  • After our flights were cancelled, he called his host and he got us 2 nights free as a result of all his gambling this weekend. He was very excited that he got us free rooms for the next 2 nights, so I didn't want to remind him that it cost him $2K/night based on this weekend's gambling losses.
  • We wanted to get access to a specific club, so we sat down at blackjack and a host put our names down on the VIP list. Admission to that place cost $150/pp after losing 6 straight hands in blackjack. And I still don't know what the VIP list does other then bypass general admission and hang out in a roped off section where it's a bunch of dudes.
And finally, this is not a place to wisk your girlfriend to for a last minute trip or a planned trip. Save the money for Paris or the Caribbean.

Casino/Hotel rankings of places I've stayed the past few years:
  1. Bellagio
  2. Ritz Carlton (at the Lake)
  3. Venetian
  4. Caesars
  5. Mirage
  6. MGM Grand
  7. Rio
  8. Monte Carlo
  9. Harrahs
I can't believe I'm coming back again next weekend. At least it's the Wynn. I will not gamble, I will not gamble, I will not gamble..... yeah right!
